How do I Create Segments in Customers App?

Investopedia defines "a market segment as a group of people who share one or more common characteristics, lumped together for marketing purposes." This dictionary further says that each market segment is unique. Marketers device various strategies to create a target market for their product or service. Their approach differs for each segment because they take into consideration the needs, demographics, lifestyles and also the personality of the target consumers.

Three Characteristics of a Market Segment

  1. Firstly, there has to be homogeneity.
  2. Secondly, there has to be a distinction that will make the market segment unique
  3. Finally, there has to be almost similar reaction that will make the response to the marketing efforts more predictable.

Some of the examples of common characteristics of market segment includes
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Lifestyle
  • Interests and so on

Examples of market segmentation includes

  • Geography
  • Demography
  • Psychography
  • Behavior of the consumers

Steps to Create Segments

  1. Log in and access Customers App from universal navigation menu bar.
  2. Click on "More" icon and select "Settings" located at the app header bar.

  3. Click on "Customers" drop down and select “Markets & Segments” from left navigation panel.

  4. Click on “Add Segment” button in segment information dashboard.
  5. Now add segment popup emerges, in which provide:
    • Name - Name of the segment
       
  6. Click on “Create” button to complete. 
  7. You can view the created segment for market will be highlighted with gray colored dialog box as shown in the image below:

  8. You can view yellow colored dialog box with success message at the top of the dashboard.
